Compass & Cumin, explained

Independent since the first notebook page — and still independent.

Everything on Compass & Cumin is written first-hand. We take the early bus, we miss the turn, we write down the correction — and that version is the one that reaches the page.

Why it exists

Guidebooks age quietly; blogs get rewritten for keywords. We wanted a third thing: pages that stay specific — the fare, the walking time, the hour when the courtyard empties — and get edited when the world moves on.

How to use it

Start with the latest guides, take the routes that match your pace, and treat every price as a checkpoint rather than a promise. Found something out of date? Tell us and it will be fixed.

Who writes here

The journal is kept by a small group of contributors who each cover the places they know first-hand: one who travels mostly by rail, one who walks everything, one who plans the routes nobody else wants to plan. Between them they have been keeping notes long enough to know what gets forgotten by the second week away.

What we publish, and when

New pages appear when a trip produces something worth passing on, not on a fixed schedule — usually a handful a month, more in the weeks after a long route. Older pages are kept current by editing them in place, so the address you bookmarked stays the address that carries the newest version.
